AJ Nelson – “I Can’t Be Like Other Musicians”
AJ Nelson, the man with Africa at heart and one of Africa’s favourite sons, visited Accra based radio station, Happy 98.9FM on DJ Adviser’s show where they had a little chit chat.
A few fan-like questions came up and more intriguing answers were given. AJ was asked about joining trends and why he seems not to be part of any trend of music that has been here and some still here. He responded by saying all musicians can’t be the same. He wants his music to touch the souls of people positively while making money but not going all out for money while sacrificing the positives he wants to put out.
He went on to have his take on Medikal’s claim of saving the rap game when it almost ‘died’. “As far as I know, rap music in Ghana has never needed a saviour because it has always been vibrant. We have emcees like me, Manifest, Sark, EL, Okyeame Kwame, Kojo Cue, Flowing Stone, PaeDae and Cabum still alive. I don’t know what he was on when he made that bold statement. He goofed big time.” AJ said.
“I don’t want to be alien in another man’s country. I want my music to be the reason why I travel and when I arrive I want to work on nothing but music.”, AJ responded to DJ Adviser when asked about performing more outside Ghana since he has lots of Scandinavian fans.
He went ahead to mention a few of the new acts that he will like to collaborate with and they were in the likes of Kidi, King Promise and Kelvyn Boy.
DJ Adviser wasn’t short of questions when he met the skilled lyricist as he was ready to dish them out like they were ‘hello Wapi’ toffees from a primary 5 student on his/her birthday.
AJ Nelson together with AB Crenstil will have a live band performance at the Dansoman Keep fit on the 29th of June. Fans and music lovers are expected to be out in their numbers as it promises to be entertaining.
